 Pak Seung Chuen

A HK conceptual artist, his artwork may not be shown in museums or exhibited, however he can make a journey, or many things that we do not aware into artworks.

3692
plastic sheet
13cm x 15cm

To contain the spread of SARS, property management companies place a plastic sheet on the combination lock at the entrance of buildings. They have it cleaned and changed on a regular basis. This is a used plastic sheet, bearing traces of residents' comings and goings. 3692 is the entry code for the building. (Amazingly, password was molded on the lock!) The box contains the plastic sheets of the other five blocks in the housing estate. - Pak Seung Chuen

As Pak Seung Chuen said, the plastic is not made by him, it is made by people who are using the number pad.
However, we seldom treat the number pad as a possible piece of art. Surprisingly, the password, is molded on the sheet, and Pak has helped us to discover more in our daily lives.

Mark Six: win/ church

Mark Six is a gambling game. You need to give six marks on each game. Each ticket contains 4 games (24 marks). You can use these 24 marks to draw a sign or a symbol. - Pak Seung Chuen

In the above work, Pak has shown us how can we find out art in some details of our lives. The Mark 6 sheet itself is simply a paper with some dots, we can simply joint the dots and draw. It tells me that what we see may not be used in the way we think. It matters with how people use it.

Valleys Trip

Map:東京23區(1:10,000 / 2006-1 Edition)
Period:27-28/2, 1-2/3, 5/3/2007
* I walked vertically from p1 to p296, total 24 pages.

I opened a map book. Then, I walked along all the gaps* between the left pages and the right pages in it, from the south to the north Tokyo. The pages are arched like 2 mountains and the gap is craved in like a valley. I stood and took photos at every points that were crossed the valleys. - Pak Seung Chuen

The above art couldn't give me any impact on visual. However, it is a very good demonstration of how to blind our odd thinking, and try to open our creative side. With going vertically on the map, we see different combination of things. They may be not related at all, however, they can all be link up by the vertical line on a map.
